Aris Galiotos - Founding Volunteer
While travelling around Asia on a sabbatical year, Aris spent a month volunteering in Cambodia. He met Michael, who shared with him his idea about a place which would help visitors find ways to support the local communities. Feeling very passionate about it, he decided to return to Siem Reap in January 2009 and assist in the establishment of ConCERT. Travel plans put aside, Aris ended up spending 5 month in Siem Reap helping to recruit business and project partners, designing our website and managing the office when Michael was away.
When not in Cambodia, Aris works as a specialised technology consultant for investment banks. He spent 2009 and the first half of 2010 balancing his time between his work in financial technology, and volunteering at ConCERT, sharing his IT skills and assisting in the promotion of our work. His employers were very supportive of his time spent volunteering even though they were keen for him to accept a long term contract with them. After much thought, he finally agreed and left Siem Reap in May 2010. Aris is keen to continue his involvement with ConCERT and helps to develop new services, especially improving the support we can give to people through our website.
When he’s in town, and not in the office, he can be usually found quenching his thirst on Pub Street, after a long cycle ride around the temples. He has also made numerous attempts to win the weekly pub quiz but to no avail as of yet. |
