Our Role - Helping you to help

Those involved with running projects and other voluntary organisations know how difficult it is to obtain sufficient resources to undertake their work.  This includes resources of all kinds: funding, human resources, materials…

Our Role - Helping you to help - concert office

Linked to this, extensive research into responsible tourism was undertaken in Siem Reap during July 2008 and a wide variety of visitors were interviewed.  They were asked if they’d witnessed examples of poverty, and if so, whether they wished to offer their support in some way.  All of those who wanted to help felt frustrated because the information on projects is dispersed and not accessible in one place.  This makes it difficult to make informed choices, and to have the confidence that any support given would be used for the intended purpose.

The potential to increase the level of support is significant due to several factors:

  • a large proportion of the monetary help and volunteer assistance is still given on an ad hoc basis after people arrive
  • many people who give their support had no intention to do so when they planned their visit to Cambodia
  • the average length of stay is only 3-4 days making research difficult whilst on holiday
  • most people who are willing to contribute are unable to find information on projects during their stay and return home without helping

At the ConCERT office in the centre of Siem Reap we have information on a range of projects engaged in community development and support activities, and which supplement the work of the government.  These cover many sectors including:

our role - helping you to help siem reap ngos
  • the care of children, (orphanages, day centres & schools)
  • education support
  • community centres
  • agricultural development
  • vocational training
  • infrastructure projects
  • combating human sex trafficking
  • support for vulnerable people, especially women and children
  • health and hygiene
  • water supplies
  • landmine removal
  • environmental & biodiversity protection & education

All our member projects need your support and are well managed, financially transparent, and work in partnership with local people.  Every project is different and requires different types of help.  Call in and browse through their information, and talk to our staff.  We can explain what each project does, and what sort of assistance it requires, such as:

our role - information about cambodia
  • funding – (day to day expenses, food, building projects, child sponsorship)
  • materials – (school equipment, books and pens, clothes, uniforms, building materials)
  • raising awareness of their activities
  • volunteers

In addition to information about our member projects, our staff will also be pleased to share their Cambodian experiences with you and provide information about the wider issues in Cambodia.  They can give you tips on how to provide the maximum amount of benefit from your involvement.  They can also give advice on some of the things it’s best not to do.
