Spitler School

Spitler Primary School – Spitler School Foundation

“We may affirm absolutely that nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.”
George Hegel

The Spitler School, in the small village of Ang Chagn Chass, Cambodia, began in 2005.  It became a reality because a young Cambodian tour guide had a passion to help the children of his country.  As a young boy Chea Sarin’s family was separated, and his father was killed during the genocide of the Khmer Rouge.  But Sarin survived, learned English, and became a successful tour guide.  He wanted to make a difference in his community and longed to do something to help the children.

Sarin’s dream became a reality when he was able to build a school in a village where no school existed.  With financial assistance from the Spitler family in the United States, what started as a small wood and thatch classroom with two teachers has grown into a substantial campus educating almost 500 students from kindergarten through sixth grade.

The Spitler School is recognized by the Cambodian Ministry of Education for meeting and exceeding all standards for a primary education.  All administrative and teaching positions are filled with Cambodians earning decent salaries and dedicated to being a part of the dream.

In addition to providing an education for village children the school has become a source of pride for the surrounding area as Sarin has helped to coordinate many initiatives to provide assistance to the families of these students.  Over the past five years water filters, mosquito nets, clothing, and rice supplements have been presented to the impoverished families of the Spitler School students.

We would invite you to join with Sarin’s family, and the Spitler family, by becoming a part of the Spitler School family of supporters, helping to provide an education for so many children who need and deserve a much brighter future.

In addition to assisting with the operational expenses and maintenance of the school your donation will assist the Spitler School Foundation to purchase uniforms for the children, deliver health care for students, and provide bicycles to graduating sixth grade students thus providing them the transportation they will need to attend middle school and continue their education.

One hundred percent of all donations are used to directly benefit the operations of the Spitler School.
