About THE GLOBAL CHILD |
The Global Child (hereafter, TGC) is international project, has its headquarter in Newport Vermont, USA and registered with Ministry of Foreign Affair and International Cooperation in Cambodian on 14th January, 2004 TGC is nonprofit, apolitical, nonpartisan, effective social change in recovering war-torn nations. The Global Child is a nonprofit school based in Siem Reap, Cambodia, that gives bright, enthusiastic, street working children, hungry for an education and a wholesome future, the opportunity to pursue a progressive and rigorous course of study in a nurturing and empowering environment. Education is one of the main building blocks of development. Our organization contributes to Cambodia's development by providing this to talented and underprivileged children. Our students are provided health care, food, shelter (for those who necessary need) along with a dollar a day which we've found is the necessary amount to maintain high retention rates. Street working children are often the bread winners of their families and will never be able to fully pursue their education unless the family is compensated in some way. Retention rates are important because we are committed to each student until the end of their educational career and make sure they have two feet on the ground before leaving The Global Child school. The Global Child organization operates a small business in the heart of Siem Reap town. All business profits go to support the Global Child. The businesses also provide students with entrepreneurial training opportunities for practical future employment. The Joe to Go Restaurant and the Beau Fou Boutique
The Beau Fou (French for “crazy fun”) Boutique is located on the second floor of the Joe to Go Restaurant. This lovely boutique sells unique handcrafted work by students and their families of The Global Child. Additionally, other local and South East Asian merchandize such as bags, clothes, jewelry, and carpets are sold here to support other non-profit organizations and communities.
